I was giddy with anticipation by the time the next day rolled around, and I couldn't stop flitting around my dorm room.

My room was completely unlike anything I'd ever seen on TV. Instead of a small shoebox, it was a large, open-concept suite with a formal seating area, a huge oak desk with a leather chair for studying, and a king sized bed.

It reminded me of the fancy hotel rooms rich people stayed in.

I imagined most VIP students were accustomed to this kind of luxury, and would never dream of living in 150 square feet of space like normal dorm rooms. I just counted myself lucky my scholarship included housing.

When Luka showed up at my dorm room with a bouquet of flowers, I was so touched by the thoughtful gesture it took me a moment to realize there was no vase to put them in.

"Thank you so much," I said, taking the flowers and searching for a mug to use as a vase. I found one of my old travel mugs and filled it up with water. It would have to do.

"You look lovely," Luka said, looking me up and down, taking in my simple black dress.

There was a heat in his gaze that made me wonder if a less gracious man would have used a different word than 'lovely.' I couldn't help feeling myself respond to the obvious interest in his eyes.

"Thank you," I said, blushing.

It hadn't been difficult deciding what to wear. It wasn't like I had many cocktail dresses to choose from. I was wearing every woman's standby — the little black dress.

Luka seemed to approve.

"Shall we?" he asked, holding out his arm for me to slip my hand into the crook of his elbow.

I gladly obliged, and he escorted me out to his car. It was surprising to see an elegant, understated black sedan. He opened the door and helped me in. I was so dizzy with the charm and attention he was showering me with that I almost didn't realize it when we arrived at the restaurant.

We found ourselves seated at a table in a private room, not out in the restaurant with the other guests. I guess I should have expected Luka would have his own private space, but it was still so much more intimate and fancy than I was used to.

I opened the menu and felt my heart sink. It was all in French and there weren't any prices listed. Luka gently laid his hand over mine, taking pity on what had to be the confused expression on my face.

"Would you like me to order something for you?"

"Yes, please," I said sheepishly.

"What do you like?" he asked.

"Anything with chicken or beef is fine. And if possible, could you avoid mushrooms?"

He gave an order to the attentive waiter. I didn't speak French, but every word sounded lovely in his smooth, rich voice. With that done, he turned all of his attention to me. His eyes on my face made me feel like the whole world had narrowed to just the two of us.
